Dragon’s blood (also known as Drago) is a natural plant resin obtained from a variety of tropical “dragon trees” from plant groups such as Dracaena, Croton or Pterocarpus. The name dragon’s blood derives from its fiery red colour. The plant resin has been used for thousands of years across the ancient Greeks, Romans, and the Middle East. It has medicinal uses but is also used as a perfume, ink or dye.
Dragon’s blood powder is commonly used to aid digestive and gastrointestinal health by treating stomach ulcers or Crohn’s disease. It also contains alkaloids such as taspine, which supposedly give antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects to heal wounds. This is said to soothe rashes, treat cuts and heal insect bites.
