Beth root is typically grown in central and western United States in rich soil and shady woods. It is also called birth root as it was commonly used by Native Americans to help during labour.
It is believed that Native American tribes used beth root to help childbirth and treat irregular menstrual periods, period pains and excessive vaginal discharge.
The plant may help to reduce swelling and break up chest congestion.
It is thought that applying beth root directly on the skin may help with varicose veins, ulcers, bruises and bleeding haemorrhoids.
