Wholesale Chickweed Herb Powder

Stellaria media

Form: Powder

Product description

Chickweed is a common, low-growing herbaceous plant native to Europe which is now found growing in many parts of the world. It is often considered a weed but is also valued for its edible and herbal remedy properties. Here’s an overview of the chickweed plant: Chickweed is characterised by small, delicate white flowers with five deeply notched petals that resemble ten petals. The leaves are opposite, smooth, and oval with pointed tips. The stems are slender and often have a line of fine hairs. Chickweed grows in a mat-like fashion, spreading along the ground. It prefers moist, shaded areas but can also thrive in sunny locations. It is an annual plant, completing its life cycle within one year, which is then dried and milled into a fine powder.

Also known as starweed, Chickweed is part of the Caryophyllaceae family. Chickweed is thought to be rich in vitamins (such as vitamin C and A) and minerals (like iron, calcium, and potassium), making it a nutritious addition to the diet, a good addition to animal feeds. In addition, Chickweed contains C-glycosylflavones and phenolic acids.

How is it used?

Chickweed leaves, stems, and flowers are edible and can be eaten raw or cooked. The dried plant is ground finely to produce a potent and convenient powder.

Traditionally, chickweed has been used in herbal medicine to treat a variety of conditions. It is believed to have anti-inflammatory, diuretic, and demulcent properties. Historically, it has also been applied topically to soothe skin irritations, cuts, and rashes.
