Cut white dead-nettle consists of the dried, chopped aerial parts of the Lamium album plant, displaying a green to whitish-green colour and a slightly coarse texture. The stem of the plant is four angled with triangular, round based, hairy leaves. Unlike the stinging nettle, they do not sting and produce small white flowers close to the stem. They are part of the Lamiaceae family. It has a mild, slightly sweet aroma and taste. White dead-nettle is commonly found in temperate regions of Europe and Asia. The herb contains lignans, lectins, triterpenes, glycoprotein, flavonoids, tannins, and mucilage. Cut white dead-nettle is used in traditional herbal remedies for its believed anti-inflammatory and astringent properties, often included in teas, tinctures, and topical applications. The leaves are edible and can be used in salads.
