Product description
Blue flagâs name refers to the tall, upright stems topped with colourful blue petals on this perennial plant. But as pretty as the petals may be itâs the root that has shown promise for treating a range of conditions including swelling, fluid retention, inflammation and liver problems.
Blue Flag and homeopathy
Homoeopaths will often prescribe blue flag for patients who are suffering from shingles. Itâs also a popular choice for symptoms of migraines that include digestive issues and blurred or lost vision. When used in tea form, it has laxative and diuretic properties.
A modern herbal
Much of blue flagâs medicinal properties come from oleoresin. This contains many phenolic glycosides â which herbalists believe can stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, increasing bile, saliva and sweat. In particular, itâs a good source of the glycoside iridin, which is thought to be useful for treating liver disorders and improving liver function.
Iridin also has an excellent reputation for cleansing the blood and clearing congestion. For this reason, blue flag can treat conditions of the skin such as spots, psoriasis and blemishes and be used for counteracting too much alcohol, coffee or fatty foods.
