    Birch Leaves Cut

    Betula sp.

    Form: Cut

    Product description

Birch is a tree that grows in harsh conditions and may be found in Siberia through to Scandinavia, Scotland, and England, as well as North America, the Himalayas, China, Japan, and North Korea. Birch has a long and deep history with many legends attached to its name as well as practical uses including making household items and herbal remedies.

    Practical uses of birch

Birch has been used by Native Americans to waterproof the roofs of their huts as well as make special lightweight canoes, pots, cribs, lampshades and toys. In Europe, birch twigs have been used for thatching and wattle work as well as making brooms. The brush ends of a broom, including witches’ brooms, were also made out of birch twigs.

    Herbal remedies

Birch leaves may help treat rheumatism and arthritis. It is also believed that birch may help treat inflammatory skin conditions, cuts, and wounds to prevent infection and reduce swelling.

    Myths and legends of birch

Historically, birch is considered to be a protective tree that may ward off witches and demons. The twigs were pinned to entrances in houses and barns to protect against spells and curses, especially those that caused impotence or made milk dry up.
