    Bogbean Leaves Cut

    Menyanthes trifoliata

    Form: Cut

    Product description

Menyanthes trifoliata, or bogbean as it’s more commonly known, is an attractive-looking wetland plant with unique, star-shaped flowers. Its leaves look a little like broad beans, and the plant tends to occur naturally in shallow water, hence the nickname ‘bogbean.’ The best places to find it are the north of England and Scotland, where it’s also referred to as buckbean or bog hop. If you’d like to place a bulk order of cut bogbean leaves, please complete the form below to enquire today.

    How is it used?

An alternate nickname for the plant, bog hop, came about due to its use as a beer flavouring. Besides that, bogbean has long been used to create traditional herbal remedies.

It’s thought to contain chemicals that can trigger increased production of saliva and stomach fluids, thus addressing indigestion and weak appetite. It’s also believed that bogbean can work as an antioxidant, reducing inflammation around the body when ingested.

    Tea made from the leaves

Traditional herbal tea brewed from bogbean leaves may treat irregular menstruation, indigestion, increase appetite and digestive fluid, and may improve nutrient absorption.

    Beer flavouring

In England and parts of Europe, the leaves are used to flavour beer instead of hops.

    May act as an anti-inflammatory

It is thought that Bogbean may also act as an antioxidant to reduce inflammation and swelling.
