    Boldo Leaves Cut

    Peumus boldo

    Form: Cut

    Product description

Peumus boldus, or boldo as it’s typically called, is a South American evergreen shrub that’s most widespread in countries like Chile and Argentina. Despite being introduced to parts of Europe and North Africa, the species is rarely seen outside of South America. It’s not to be confused with the similar-looking Plectranthus ornatus, or ‘falso boldo.’ If you would like to place a bulk order of either whole or cut boldo leaves, please enquire today using the form below.

    How is it used?

Most commonly, boldo leaves are used to make herbal teas, which are believed to help treat a variety of ailments. Boldo leaves contain antioxidants, and it’s thought that they can be used to treat digestive problems and even encourage weight loss. Although scientific evidence of boldo leaf’s effectiveness is limited, some have used it to help treat things like kidney stones and joint pain.

    Used as a tea

Boldo may be used as a tea to help treat a number of liver and gallbladder problems, including jaundice, hepatitis, and gallstones. The tea may also be used to increase one's appetite and expel worms and treat colds, syphilis, and gonorrhoea due to its claimed antimicrobial effect.

    Historical uses

South Americans used the leaves in herbal remedies, and explorers brought the herb to North America and the UK to help prevent or relieve gas for stomach, bladder, and liver ailments, as well as a moderate sedative.

    Antimicrobial properties

It is thought that boldo leaves have antimicrobial properties, which means they may aid in the prevention and treatment of diseases caused by dangerous microbes including bacteria, viruses, and parasites.
