How is it used?

When cut into, brazil wood shows its vivid red colour – a colour that has led to the ingredient being used in all manner of dyes and inks over the years. The distinctive hue is caused by the presence of brazilin, which also explains the wood’s nickname.

In the past, brazil wood (or heart wood, as it’s otherwise known) was also used in medicine; Chinese herbal practitioners used it to help reduce bleeding and the appearance of bruises.
