White bryony (Bryonia dioica), otherwise known as English mandrake, is a flowering climber that can grow to heights of 4m. Part of the cucumber family, the plant produces red berries which are considered poisonous. Despite this, the root continues to be used in herbal medicine, and is believed to offer a number of benefits. How is it used?
Although white bryony is no longer as widely used in medicine as it once was, the root is believed to help treat a number of ailments, including the flu, coughs, pneumonia, bronchitis and whooping cough.
