Product description
Butcher’s Broom (Ruscus aculeatus) is an evergreen shrub that occurs naturally in parts of Western Europe. Its unusual name stems from the way butchers once used it to clear their chopping blocks, but there’s more to the plant than that. Are you interested in placing an order of wholesale Butcher’s Broom? How is it used?
Besides acting as a makeshift broom, Ruscus aculeatus has much to offer as a herbal supplement. It’s rich in a number of active ingredients, like flavonoids. As a result, the plant has long been used to help address a number of circulatory ailments. It’s believed to help boost circulation, quell inflammation and treat haemorrhoids, as well as addressing symptoms like cramps and itching.
Historical uses of butcher's broom
The name derives from Europe, where butchers would turn its stiff shrubbery into a broom and sweep their cutting blocks. Traditionally in Europe, the rhizome (root) has been used as a diuretic. In ancient Greece, the root was used as a laxative and believed to remove kidney stones when added to wine. In recent times, the butcher’s broom has proved to be a versatile shrub that can be eaten like asparagus, applied directly to the skin and its root is commonly used to make herbal tea. The roasted seeds inside the berries can also be crushed to make a refreshing coffee substitute (without the caffeine).
It is believed to improve blood circulation
Butcher’s broom is commonly taken by mouth to help a variety of different ailments, namely promoting healthy blood circulation of the legs. The chemicals that the herb contains might cause the blood vessels to narrow or constrict, which is thought to improve circulation and help to treat conditions such as varicose veins.
It is believed to have other health benefits
Recent research has uncovered that butcher’s broom may offer anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory health benefits. It is thought to treat conditions such as haemorrhoids and constipation by reducing swelling, easing pain and itching, and helping veins contract. It is also believed to reduce signs of ageing when applied directly to the skin.
