    Cinnamon bark powder (Cinnamomum verum/zeylanicum) comes from the Sri Lankan cinnamon tree. This tropical, evergreen tree is native to Sri Lanka. Today it is also grown in Indonesia, the West Indies and parts of South America. The two main varieties of cinnamon are Ceylon and Cassia, with the latter being most commonly found in supermarkets.

    Cinnamon contains a number of essential oils and resinous compounds. The active ingredients, such as cinnamaldehyde, are believed to have anti-inflammatory properties.
