Cochineal is a natural dye used to produce a range of warm orange and red hues. Originally used in Mexico, it was subsequently introduced into Europe. The dye is sourced from the cochineal insect that are harvested from cacti and predominantly sourced from Mexico, South America and the Southwest United States. These tropical insects are oval-shaped and grow to around 0.2 inches long. Today, Peru is the largest commercial supplier.

How to use cochineal?
