Product description
Corn silk is the name given to the shiny, silk-like fibres that grow from the top of an ear of corn (otherwise known as maize). Corn silk begins to appear as the plant grows, and can develop into long, hair-like strands over time. Although the fibres are often cast aside, they are thought to offer a number of health benefits. How is it used?
The term ‘cornsilk’ is believed to have originated in the 1800s, but its use in herbal medicine dates back much further than that. Over the years, it has been used to treat a wide variety of different ailments. For example, it’s believed to help combat the symptoms of angina and reduce blood pressure. The fibres are also thought to have a diuretic effect.
Cornsilk can be consumed in a variety of ways – some prefer to eat it fresh, while others dry it before adding it to a herbal tea.
