JFS Achieves Carbon Neutral Status
We’re proud to announce an important milestone for JFS. Our business has achieved Certified Carbon Neutral status, marking an important step in our ongoing commitment to understanding, reducing and taking responsibility for our environmental impact.
The achievement reflects the collective efforts of the JFS Family, bringing together Joseph Flach & Sons, Mimea Mauzo and Canaan Country as we work towards a more sustainable future.
As part of the process, we collected data from across the JFS Family covering areas such as inbound and outbound logistics, packaging, energy use, vehicles, business travel, employee commuting, working from home, waste and water. The assessment showed that we already have some positive measures in place. For example, our company-owned cars and forklifts are all electric, while mains gas has been capped off across our units.
We also looked at the less obvious areas of our environmental impact, such as business travel, staff commuting and waste. During the assessment period, we recorded 7,033kg of general commercial waste and 2,199kg recycled, giving us a clear area where we can look to make further improvements.
42 tonnes of CO₂e offset
Once our emissions had been calculated, 42 tonnes of CO₂e were offset through Carbon Neutral Britain’s Woodland FundTM portfolio of verified carbon offsetting projects in August 2026.
The projects supported through Carbon Neutral Britain are selected from recognised carbon standards including the United Nations Certified Emission Reductions (CER), Verra Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Gold Standard. Projects can also deliver wider benefits, including supporting biodiversity, wildlife, communities, education, employment, clean water and renewable energy.
Our Carbon Neutral status therefore forms part of a wider process of measuring our emissions, taking action to balance our current footprint and identifying opportunities to reduce our future emissions.
It’s the start, not the finish
Achieving Carbon Neutral status is an important milestone, but we see it as the beginning of the next stage of our sustainability journey.
Our certification gives us a baseline against which we can track our progress and identify where further improvements can be made, from energy use and waste to how we travel and operate across our businesses.
Carbon Neutral Britain describes the journey as Calculate, Offset, Certify, Reduce and Educate.
We will be looking at how we can continue to reduce our emissions year on year, building on the work that is already underway across the JFS Family.
A positive step for the JFS Family
Sustainability is an ongoing journey, and there is always more that can be done. But achieving Carbon Neutral status gives us a tangible starting point and a clearer understanding of the impact of our operations.
We’re proud to be taking this step as a family of businesses and look forward to continuing to find ways to reduce our environmental impact, operate more sustainably and make a positive difference for the future.
