    Bentonite Powder

    Form: Powder

    Product description

Bentonite is obtained from volcanic ash and is a soft clay which is said to host a lot of nutrients. Known to be rich in calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and silica but its acclaimed superpower is its ability to absorb and clarify.

It can swell to several times its own weight as it absorbs, and when in contact with water, it transforms into a gelatinous, viscous liquid. Obtaining Bentonite Powder includes extracting the clay, crushing it before drying and milling.

    Bentonite powder uses

    BENTONITE FOR BETTER WINES

One way we've seen bentonite used is within the winemaking industry. Thanks to its porous nature, it can remove protein molecules in large amounts from liquids.

Used in white wine, it will remove excess protein which prevents the wine from going hazy as temperatures rise and the protein changes. It can also cause a more rapid clarification in both red and white wines speeding up the filtration process.

It is sometimes also used as a clarification agent for other food and drinks like sugar, honey, mineral water and beer.

    FOR HEALTH AND BEAUTY

Being highly absorbent has seen the substance used as a laxative. Once consumed, it is claimed to absorb water and stay in the digestive system where it can bind to toxins and help remove them.

In more recent years it is had something of superstar status in the beauty world—it is thought to help draw out impurities and excess oil.

    Other uses for bentonite powder

Bentonite finds its way into pet litter products for (you guessed it) its absorption capability.

Others use it as a desiccant to protect products from moisture degradation. Although we may more commonly see silica gel packets, bentonite is better at absorption and has been approved for use with food and drugs.

Some animal feed pellets also make use of the substance.
