    Comfrey Root Powder

    Symphytum officinale

    Form: Powder

    Product description

Comfrey root, derived from the comfrey plant, is a herbaceous perennial native to Europe and parts of Asia. It has a long history of use in herbal remedies dating back to ancient times and is valued for its potential health benefits. Comfrey is a robust plant with hairy leaves and bell-shaped purple, blue, or white flowers. It grows up to 1.2 metres in height and thrives in moist, fertile soil. Both the roots and leaves of comfrey contain beneficial compounds, but the root is particularly known for its higher concentration of certain phytochemicals.

Part of the Boraginaceae family, Comfrey contains allantoin, phenolic acids, mucilage, steroidal saponins, glycopeptides and pyrrolizidine alkaloids.

    How is it used?

Comfrey root has been traditionally used for various herbal remedy purposes. Comfrey root is often infused into oils or included in topical preparations such as ointments and salves for external application. The dried root can be brewed into tea or tinctures. Comfrey root is thought to be renowned for its believed ability to promote healing of wounds, cuts, and bruises. It contains allantoin, a compound that is thought to help stimulate cell proliferation and tissue regeneration.

It is reported to have anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce inflammation and swelling associated with injuries and arthritis. Comfrey root has been used topically to support bone health and alleviate symptoms of joint pain and fractures. Some traditional practices also use it for treating sprains and strains. Due to its soothing and healing properties, comfrey root is used in ointments and creams for skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis.
