Product description
The vibrant blue petals are hard to miss. Hardly surprising then that the Blue Cornflower - a member of the daisy family, and a herbaceous annual - is sometimes used as a source for blue dyes: the name cyanus translates to 'dark blue' in Greek. The herb is also used for medicinal and culinary purposes.

A particularly useful dried flower
HEALING COLOUR SOOTHES THE EYES
One of the essential compounds that Blue Cornflowers contain is anthocyanins, a flavonoid with antioxidant properties which also gives it its bold colour. The beneficial impact on vision was one of the first to be associated with anthocyanins.
That makes it hardly surprising that in the past, we used the petals of this flower for eye treatments. This eye-health boosting effect gave the plant one of its early nicknames: The eyeglass breaker, as it was thought it could negate the need for glasses.
CALMS INFLAMMATION
Â
It is the powerful anti-inflammatories that also mean Blue Cornflowers may be used to help deal with mucus membrane and tissue inflammation, skin inflammation and pain.
The soothing effect, combined with the anti-inflammatory action, is reported to help soothe rheumatism. While when brewed into floral water, it can be applied directly to the skin to help calm sunburn or other milk skin irritations..
SKIN BOOSTING TONIC
Skincare experts and manufacturers will frequently include Blue Cornflowers in their products as they are thought to have visible benefits to the skin and eyes.
The anti-inflammatory properties may help to decongest the eyes, soothing any puffiness and reducing dark circles. One current use is in eye makeup remover as it is gentle and soothing for this delicate area. It can also be blended into mists designed to soothe the skin or calm redness.
EDIBLE CORNFLOWERS
Its colourful petals are edible and taste like sweet cucumbers, and they are used to help treat a wide range of conditions from conjunctivitis to menstrual disorders. The use of cornflowers stretches far back - the Egyptians believed the flower to have the ability to resurrect the dead, with wreaths of the flowers being found close to Tutankhamun's tomb. The petals are edible and so are used to decorate cakes or add colourful blue hues to bakes, but its primary use is in the cosmetic and medical field.
