    Juniper Oil Himalayan Pure

    Form: Liquid

    Product description

Juniper berries aren’t typical berries – they’re the female seed cones of juniper trees, distinguished by their fleshy, merged scales that give them a berry-like look. Found in the tomb of Tutankhamun, these ancient gems boast a rich history and are cherished for their unique, sharp flavour.

Juniper berries, part of the Cupressaceae family, are widely distributed around the world particularly in eastern europe. The berry is 0.5 – 1cm in diameter, globular and purplish in colour when ripe. They start off green and take around 18 months to mature. They contain volatile oils, a flavonoid called juniperin, tannins and diterpene acids, and have an characteristic piney odour and taste.

Juniper oil, extracted from these berries, exudes a refreshing, complex aroma with hints of sweet wood. Its scent profile, reminiscent of pine forests, makes it a versatile middle note that blends harmoniously with a variety of other fragrances, including herbal, citrus, floral, and woody tones.

    How is juniper oil used?

Juniper oil has a long history in traditional remedies, valued for its believed stomachic, diuretic, antiseptic, and anti-rheumatic properties. It’s believed to help alleviate various inflammatory conditions, making it a universal component in natural medicine. In traditional medicine, juniper berries were thought to be useful for female birth control. The Greeks used juniper to increase stamina in athletes.

Beyond its therapeutic benefits, juniper oil is a popular ingredient in cosmetics, prized for its natural antiseptic qualities. It’s often used in low dilutions to help manage acne, dermatitis, and eczema, providing a natural pathway to clearer, healthier skin. Its fresh, woody scent is a favourite in perfumes, colognes, and a variety of personal care products.

The juniper berry has been used as an essential ingredient in gin for centuries. Its unique pine flavour makes it a favourite in many botanical gins.
