How is it used?
Buckthorn bark is rich in flavonoids, glycosides, lipids and tannins, all of which explain its continued use in herbal medicine. Primarily, buckthorn bark is used as a laxative. It’s thought that these ingredients help stimulate the production of fluid in the colon and support the healthy function of the intestines, thus encouraging healthy bowel movements.
As a result, buckthorn bark is often compared to cascara bark, which is thought to be similarly effective at treating constipation.
