    Bilberry Leaves Cut

    Vaccinium myrtillus

    Form: Cut

    Product description

Bilberries, also known as European blueberries, are small, dark blue berries that grow on low, woody shrubs. They are closely related to blueberries and huckleberries and are prized for their flavour and health benefits. The bilberry plants are small, deciduous shrubs that typically grow to a height of 10-50 cm (4-20 inches). The leaves are oval or lance-shaped, finely toothed, and bright green. The plant produces small, bell-shaped flowers that are pale pink or white. These flowers develop into dark blue or nearly black berries, which are about 5-10 mm in diameter. Bilberries grow in a low, spreading manner and often form dense thickets. They have a shallow root system and prefer acidic, well-drained soils. The leaves are dried and cut to produce a convenient product which can be incorporated into many different uses.

    How is it used?

Bilberry leaves have been used in herbal remedies for their potential health benefits. They contain compounds such as tannins, flavonoids, and phenolic acids, which contribute to their remedial properties. Purported to support blood sugar regulation and digestive health, the leaves are also thought to have anti-inflammatory properties. The cut leaves can be used in teas, infusions and tinctures.
