Kaolin clay is a fine, white powder with a smooth, silky texture, composed primarily of the mineral kaolinite. It has no significant aroma or taste. Kaolin is typically found in sedimentary deposits worldwide, particularly in China, the United States, and Brazil. It is also known as China Clay and contains hydrated aluminum silicate and trace minerals. Kaolin clay is used in a variety of applications, including paper production, insulation, building, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and ceramics, for its absorbent and soothing properties. It has also traditionally been used to soothe stomachs and as a barrier cream.
