    Mustard Seed Whole Black/ Brown

    Brassica juncea/ Barssica nigra

    Form: Whole

    Product description

Mustard seeds are the small, round seeds of various mustard plant species, primarily Brassica nigra (black mustard) and Brassica juncea (brown mustard). Mustard is cultivated in Europe, North America and India. The seeds, 1-2cm in diameter, have a hard, outer coating and a slightly curved shape. Black mustard seeds have a more pungent aroma and flavour, while brown mustard seeds are milder. When crushed or ground, mustard seeds release a sharp, pungent aroma and a hot, biting taste due to the compound allyl isothiocyanate.

Mustard Seeds contain glucosinolates, sinapine and sinapic acid amongst other compounds.

    Uses:

Mustard seeds are widely used in Indian, Middle Eastern, and European cuisines, often as a seasoning or condiment.

Mustard seeds have been used in traditional herbal remedies for their diuretic, emetic (inducing vomiting), and stimulant properties as well as for rheumatic pains. However, excessive consumption may cause digestive issues or allergic reactions in some individuals. Moderation is advised, especially for those with gastrointestinal conditions or mustard allergies.

Mustard seeds are a known allergen and must be handled with care to avoid contamination.

Natural products can cause side effects. As with any herbal supplement, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional before incorporating into one’s routine, especially for individuals who are pregnant, nursing, or have pre-existing medical conditions.
