    Rose Hip Shells Cut

    Rosa L spp.

    Form: Cut

    Product description

Common names for rose hips include rose haw and rose hep. Part of the Rosaceae family, the rose bush can be found across North America, Europe and China and typically thrives in woodlands and hedgerows. Roses are commonly associated with romance and are a popular gift choice for a significant other. However, the rose also produces fruit or seed-filled pods, which appear beneath the petals. Berry-like in appearance, the fruit is bright red, orange, or purple and is oval-shaped.

Rosehips contain lutein, zeaxanthin, lycopene and beta-carotene as well as being rich in vitamin C. The shells are removed from the fruit and dried. They are sold as cut and cut fine.

    How is it used?

Rose hip shells offer an abundance of uses across skincare and cosmetics, cuisine, animal nutrition, clothing manufacturing and home fragrance products.

Rose hips and their shells are well known for having particularly high vitamin C content for fruits, making them a nutritious choice for horse feed infusions and human food and drink. They can be incorporated into smoothies, herbal juices, teas, and cordials, as well as preservatives such as jam and marmalade. The flavour provides a floral, sweet taste with a tangy, bitter aftertaste.

With a high antioxidant and antimicrobial content, rose hip shells are becoming an increasingly popular ingredient for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications. They are often applied to horse food to aid the immune system and help prevent anaemia. They are a convenient time saver as they are easier to mix into an infusion than whole rose hips, but they still provide all the nutritional benefits.

Their red-pink hue makes them an ideal natural dye for a range of materials, including silk, wool, cotton and linen. As for cosmetics and skincare, it’s believed that the presence of retinoids and their antimicrobial properties contribute to healthier-looking skin.
