    Saw Palmetto Berry Powder

    Serenoa repens

    Form: Powder

    Product description

The saw palmetto berry comes from the saw palmetto plant, a small palm native to the southeastern United States, particularly Florida. The berries have been used for centuries by Native Americans and more recently in modern herbal remedies for their reported health benefits. The saw palmetto plant is a slow-growing, low, scrubby palm with fan-shaped leaves. The berries are dark purple to black when ripe and have a single seed inside. They are harvested in the autumn, which are then dried and ground into a fine powder for ease of use. The berries are thought to contain lauric, oleic, myristic, and palmitic acids as well as sterols, alcohols and flavonoids.

Saw Palmetto has a soapy taste and nutty, vanilla like odour.

    How is it used?

The Saw Palmetto Berry has a variety of modern uses in herbal remedies, reported to aid men’s health issues relating to the prostate, particularly an enlarged prostate. It is thought to reduce urinary symptoms and improve urinary flow. It is believed to inhibit the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, which converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is implicated for help with hair loss.
