    Valerian Root Powder

    Valeriana officinalis

    Form: Powder

    Product description

Valerian is a flowering plant, the root of which is dried and used as an herbal remedy. Valerian root comes from the Valerian plant, a perennial herb native to Europe and parts of Asia. It has been used for centuries in traditional herbal remedies for its sedative and calming effects. The plant is recognisable by its sweetly scented pink or white flowers, but it’s the root that holds the beneficial properties. Valerian Root contains Valerenic Acid: This compound is believed to interact with gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors in the brain, which play a role in regulating nerve impulses. Valerenic acid may help reduce anxiety and promote relaxation. It also contains Isovaleric Acid: Known for its sedative effects, isovaleric acid contributes to the calming properties of valerian root. Valerian Root also contains valepotriates, these compounds are thought to have mild muscle relaxant and sedative effects. Valerian root also contains essential oils that contribute to its characteristic smell and therapeutic properties.

Part of the Valerianaceae family, Valerian Root has an unpleasant and nauseous odour and has numerous short lateral branches up to 20cm long. The Root is dried and ground into a powder for ease of use in applications.

    How is it used?

Valerian root has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for various health conditions due to its apparent calming and sedative properties. Valerian Root can be used in capsules and tablet form. It is also incorporated into teas and tinctures, often combined with other calming herbs such as chamomile and lemon balm. The powder form can be mixed into food and other beverages.
