Product description
Native to the Caribbean, Central and North America, the bayberry plant is also named southern wax myrtle, southern bayberry, candleberry, bayberry tree and tallow shrub. It may be used for herbal remedies, gardening and candle making.
Herbal remedies
Bayberry bark is used to make herbal remedies as it may potentially help with colds, painful intestines, diarrhoea and nausea. It is also thought that it may help stimulate the circulatory system and may be used to alleviate a sore throat.
Used by 19th century physicians
It is believed that during the 1800s, physicians would treat colds, cough and flu symptoms with bayberry bark. A common treatment during those times included using powdered bayberry bark in hot tea to alleviate symptoms and treat minor colds.
