Black cohosh root cut consists of the dried, chopped roots of the black cohosh plant, featuring a dark brown to black colour and a coarse, fibrous texture. It has a slightly earthy aroma and a bitter taste. Black cohosh is commonly found in North America, particularly in woodland areas and derives from the Ranunculaceae family. Black Cohosh is also known as black bugbane or black snakeroot, rattleweed and rattleroot. The root contains triterpene glycosides, isoflavones, isoferulic acids, and alkaloids. Cut black cohosh root is used in herbal remedies for its believed hormone-balancing and anti-inflammatory properties, often included in teas, tinctures, and supplements. It is also sold as a powder.
