Cranesbill root cut consists of the dried, chopped roots of the cranesbill plant, displaying a dark brown colour and a fibrous texture. It has a mild, earthy aroma and a slightly astringent taste. Cranesbill is commonly found in temperate regions of North America and belongs to the Geraniaceae family. It is also known as alumroot, storkbill and wild geranium. The root contains tannins, flavonoids, and resins. Cut cranesbill root is used in herbal remedies for its believed astringent and anti-inflammatory properties and has historically been used to treat diarrhoea, ulcers and liver damage.
