Pellitory, part of the Urticaceae family, also known as pellitory-of-the-wall, is a perennial herb native to Europe. The cut form consists of the dried leaves and stems, which have a reddish colour and a slightly bitter aroma and taste. Pellitory is commonly used in traditional herbal remedies.
Pellitory contains flavonoids and phenolic acids.
Uses:
Pellitory has been used in traditional herbal remedies, believed to aid cystitis, fluid retention, constipation and kidney stones. It has also been used to treat burns and wounds and used for its believed anti inflammatory and pain relieving properties.
Pellitory can be added to salads and eaten as a food.
