Wild Yam Root Powder
Dioscorea villosa
Form: Powder
Product description
Wild Yam Root Powder is derived from the root of the wild yam plant, a perennial vine native to North America. Wild yam has been traditionally used for its herbal remedy properties, particularly by Native American tribes, and it continues to be popular in herbal medicine today. The leaves of the wild yam plant are heart-shaped and can be quite large, with prominent veins. The plant produces long, twining vines that can grow up to several metres in length. The root, or tuber, is the useful part of the plant. It is typically harvested, dried, and ground into a fine powder.
Part of the Dioscoriaceae family, Wild Yam contains steroidal saponins and alkaloids and has been used in the preparation of steroids.
