Celandine root cut consists of the dried, chopped roots of the greater celandine plant. Displaying a brownish-yellow colour and a coarse, fibrous texture it is part of the Papaveraceae family. It has a slightly pungent, earthy aroma and a bitter taste. Celandine is commonly found in Europe, North America, and Asia, particularly in moist, shaded areas and gardens. The root contains alkaloids and poly-phenolic acids. Cut celandine root is used in traditional herbal remedies for its believed digestive and detoxifying properties, often included in teas, tinctures, and topical applications to treat skin conditions.
