The artichoke is one of the oldest herbal remedies used today. Drawing from its many applications in folk wellness traditions, it is said the leaves can help reduce heartburn symptoms and aid alcohol sickness.
The plant was originally grown in Southern Europe. It produces cynarin and chlorogenic acid which have been, and continue to be, used as a drink flavouring.
