    Rose Petals Red

    Rosa centifolia

    Form: Whole

    Product description

The humble rose has a long and illustrious history – during Roman times they were grown extensively and used as confetti for celebrations; in perfumes; and for medicinal purposes, while at one point in the 17th century they were so sought-after that royalty used them as legal tender. Commonly associated with love and romance, red rose petals are highly prized for both their floral fragrance and their ability to add decorative qualities to handmade cosmetics and skincare.

    Red Rose Petals and skincare

Dried red rose petals are widely used to add a beautiful decorative touch to hand made soaps. As well as adding their vivid red hue to products, rose petals are also said to be an excellent skin soother. Roses are well known for their healing and hydrating properties; they have a unique ability to calm irritated skin and nourish dehydrated complexions.

They can also be blended with other botanical ingredients to create scented pillows and sachets or potpourri.

Red Rose Petals and herbal medicine

First being recorded in the 13th century, the apothecary rose – or R. Gallica Officinalis – sparked a sizeable industry near Provins in France. This special botanical ingredient was believed to be capable of curing a host of illnesses, and so the plant was turned into all manner of powders, jellies and oils and sold.

Today rose is still used in herbal remedies, most commonly in tea form, brewed from the petals of the flower.

    Red Rose Petals and teas

Both Ayurveda and Chinese medicine use rose petal tea widely, and have been doing so for hundreds of years. It is thought to have many benefits including relieving menstrual cramping, aiding digestive health, boosting immunity and soothing a sore throat. Its natural diuretic properties make it useful for treating urinary tract infections and thanks to the high levels of antioxidants and vitamin C it has a positive impact on the appearance of the skin and hair.
