    Wormwood Herb Powder

    Artemesia absinthium

    Form: Powder

    Product description

Wormwood Herb Powder is a finely ground form of Wormwood, part of the Asteraceae family and commonly known as Absinthium. This herb has been used for centuries in various traditional herbal remedies. The powdered form is convenient for various applications, including teas, tinctures, and capsules. The powder is typically greenish-brown and has a bitter taste due to the presence of several active compounds. It contains active ingredients such as thujone, absinthin, and other volatile oils, flavonoids and phenolic acids. It grows in temperate regions and is native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa but can also be found in North America.

The plant is a shrubby perennial with long thin leaves covered in whitish hairs. It has small greenish-yellow flowers, a very bitter taste and an aromatic odour.

    How is it used?

Wormwood is known for its bitter properties, which are thought to stimulate appetite and digestion. Historically it has been used to treat gastrointestinal disorders such as bloating, indigestion, and loss of appetite. Historically, Wormwood has been used to expel intestinal worms, hence its name. It is thought to be effective against a variety of parasites. It is thought to possess antimicrobial and antifungal properties, potentially making it useful in treating infections. Wormwood has been sometimes used to regulate menstrual cycles and relieve menstrual pain.

Absinthe is potentially dangerous and hallucinogenic, in the 19th century it was the main ingredient of absinthe, an alcoholic drink now banned. Wormwood is still used as a flavouring agent in liqueurs.

Wormwood powder can be steeped in hot water to make a herbal tea. Typically, 1 teaspoon of the powder is used per cup of hot water, steeped for 10-15 minutes. The powder can be encapsulated for those who prefer to avoid its bitter taste. Capsules offer a convenient way to consume precise doses.

Wormwood powder can be used to make tinctures by soaking it in alcohol or another solvent to extract its active components.
